Our Community
Like its varied citizens, Livingston defies a single category. There are long-time residents whose ancestors homesteaded here, nationally recognized artists and writers for whom this is both home and inspiration, newcomers who’ve chosen to retire here, young families with children, and folks in between. Livingston is lively, community-oriented, open-minded, and friendly. Livingston has two live theaters, a ballet company, two museums, and well over a dozen art galleries. Live music from local bands or visiting headlliners is available in town or in Paradise Valley several nights a week. You can get a great hamburger here or a gourmet meal, and catch up on community news while you are at it. Outdoor concerts by the Yellowstone River, Art Walks, festivals, and rodeos are just a part of the varied culture. And all of it is set against a backdrop of historic buildings and magnificent mountain ranges.
Our area businesses and numerous community organizations provide the backbone of a town that is uniquely “unglobalized.” We are free of box stores and big chain stores, and yet have a wide array of choices for those looking for retail goods, services, fine dining, entertainment, art, and live theater. Livingston is a community of active people, whether it is working for or volunteering with our nearly four dozen community groups, or pulling together to help a neighbor. To preserve that character, we believe in supporting local businesses and tradespeople. They in turn give back to the community with resources of all kinds. Livingston is very much a 21st century town with modern perspectives and modern capabilities, but it has preserved something that is getting harder and harder to find—authenticity.
Some Livingston backround. . .
